Top 20 Research InsightsTop 20 Research Insights

A collection of 20 short, insightful articles from CUNA Research. The articles look at trends among members and potential members in terms of demographics, product and service use, channel preferences, most popular loan products, staff incentives, and growth strategies. These articles will help you:

  • Get more members using more credit union services. Did you know that credit union members have an average of $6,872 in loans outstanding from their credit unions, but they have almost twice that amount--$12,621--in loans outstanding from other financial institutions? That's not good. Find out how to reverse those numbers and get more members turning to your credit union first the next time they need loans.
  • Attract more of your members' savings. Did you know that about 20% of credit union members have more than $20,000 deposited in other financial institutions? Another 20% have between $5,000 and $20,000 in savings at other institutions. These articles will help you develop strategies for capturing a greater share of those deposits.
  • Grow your credit union's small-business lending program. More than half (52%) of small-business owners are less than "very satisfied" with their present financial institution. These articles will help you create a package of small-business services that will attract these disgruntled business owners.
  • Develop a Web site that will give members and potential members everything they're looking for. Find out how one credit union gets 55% of its members regularly logging on to its Web site for information and to conduct transactions.
  • Use employee incentives to get the results you want. About 40% of credit unions offer incentives to at least some of their employees. But some incentive programs miss the mark and don't help credit unions reach their goals. These articles will help you avoid some of those mistakes.
